Local Projects is growing, and we’re looking for a talented 3D Artist.

Local Projects is seeking a new team member with expert 3D modeling, lighting and render skills to join our award-winning design studio. Candidate should have advanced skills with 3D Studio Max and/or MAYA plus proficiency in Rhino, AutoCAD and Adobe CS3 standard design apps. We are also interested in candidates that can offer a smaller secondary media skill set in interactive design, graphic design, video/sound editing or programming/web development. Sense of design a must.

Microsoft’s next version of Windows will support complex multi-touch features, according to a claim by company test engineer Hilton Locke. So far referred to only as Windows 7, the operating system will receive a Windows Technology update that should allow multiple points of contact and significantly more complex input options than the iPhone. Users of the Apple handset will be “blown away” by the additions to Windows, Locke hints without providing specific details.

Really guys? Really? Come on.
Based on Microsoft’s track record, the next version of Windows won’t be out for another 5-7 years, and if they pull it off at all like they did with Vista, it will be slow and buggy as hell until… um.. hey, when’s SP1 supposed to come out, anyway?

So, ok, maybe touch technologies in the Windows PC of 2014 will blow the 2007 iPhone away… but what about the 2-3 versions of iPhone that are sure to come out in the meantime? What about the 7 years of Mac OS & computer updates that will have come out by then? What about the foretold Apple multitouch gadgets that may be released as soon as next year or possibly next month? Does Microsoft thinks this industry is standing still without them? Do they really think a one-up to the iPhone’s technology half a decade later is going to be their killer app?

…And if they do, why the hell are they telling us about this? I mean, I love juicy tech news as much as the next geek, but guys, take a tip from Apple (or just about any tech company): Don’t say anything about what you’re working on until you have a shiny new product that works and is ready to sell to the public.

Not sure if they’re true, but I thought that was a great combo.

With everyone’s help, the packs were finished* just in the nick of time, and the B51 Ghostbusters** rolled out for some Halloween barhopping in Manhattan.
Our proton guns shot silly string, and the packs contained candy. Mine also had a set of speakers which played several versions of the theme song.

The night was a blast even though we missed a promised TV appearance and several costume contests. People all over cheered, sang, and danced when they saw us, and we were stopped for many pictures. A cop even lamented that he’d rather have our proton guns since he’s can’t shoot the one he has anyway.

* The packs aren’t really done yet. They look great, but need a few more pieces, some wires, and of course, more paint. Still, they served their purpose quite well. These things will be 100% done for next year.

Going into this, I heard a lot of hype. I heard that people who weren’t even Daft Punk fans (yet somehow went?) described it as a “religious experience”. Personally, I’d not call anything short of playing shuffleboard with Jesus a religious experience… but I certainly get where those folks were coming from.

Awesome show… certainly the best I’ve been to. (though if I could have somehow attended the Pink Floyd: The Wall tour, then this would possibly fall second)

Anyway, here are some clips that I managed to shoot in between frantic dancing and screaming. Enjoy.

First Apple busts out consumer multitouch with the iPhone, then Microsoft shows up with Surface, a (almost) consumer multitouch table. Very cool. I love the table I made, but it definitely has it’s shortcomings: I’ll be nice to see what a real software/electronics company can come up with, and it looks like that’s exactly what we’ll see in the coming years.

We’ve been enjoying a nice 3 day weekend after our last gig at the University at Buffalo, and are staying at the Hyatt in Buffalo, NY.

No Easter egg hunt, but Game Live is buying us dinner at the Steak house attached to the hotel.

Despite being somewhat small, the bunks on the bus are quite cozy.
Plus they all have tvs!

Kim showed up after we ran the Dead or Alive tournament, and proceeded to whup every guy who tried to fight her, including almost all of us.
Curly MCed in typical hilarious fashion, and she took it all with a smile.
It looks like we’ll be sending 2 UB students to New York…

at University at Buffalo

Not a week ago I’m getting a tan during our event at Ohio State, now it’s freezing and snowing. Blah.

While we were at Ohio State, the finals in the Halo 2 tournament were in a movie theater.
That was damn cool, but while in the theater, I saw something way cooler: This poster.

Frikkin sweet.

See the guy in the red that looks like the caddy from Happy Gilmore? That’s Jeff.
After salvaging Jordan’s discarded burrito, he entered the Dead or Alive tournament. Jeff lost in the first round, but overall, I think he had a good day.

Gives a whole new meaning to the term “Xbox Dashboard”.
This thing had 2 360’s, 2 projectors, and 2 flat screens in it. Ridiculous.

This guy dropped by while we were waiting to leave Ohio University and started playin his guitar, so Curly and Finny joined on in with beats & vocals.

5 AM this morning, we wake and pile into our transport. I briefly marvel at the grandure of our bus’ all-over purple graphics and twin lounge areas before I retire to my sleeping cubby for some more rest before work.

Two hours later, we arrive at the University of Louisville. Setup commences, and next thing I know, we’re surrounded by hordes of college students playing games on our 40+ systems. My leaderboard is now up and running, music’s playing, I’m outside, and it’s warm & sunny.

Not too shabby.

My home for the next month. The bus contains 2 lounges and a dozen sleeping cubbies. The lounges have 3 tvs between them, and are equipped with Direct TV and Xbox 360. We also have internet on the bus, which is nice, as it enables me to, say, upload this photo.
That’s Clarence, our driver. Don’t slam his door or you’ll get cut. (He threatens to just nick me, since he’s hoping I’ll fix his computer)

We were given a genre, prop, character, and line of dialog. They were action/adventure, a hammer, Morgan Becker (unemployed), and “Things are not always what they seem.”
…So, of course, we made a ninja movie.

This is the DVD cover I made for “Day In, Day Out “, a short film my friends and I made for the 2005 Filmerica Challenge.

Participants in the Filmerica Challenge are given a genre, character, prop, and line of dialog that must be used. They then have 72 hours to make a 5-9 minute movie.

Chaos ensues. We didn’t get much sleep, but it was a great experience, and I don’t think our movie sucks too much, either.

I took this picture while visiting the ruins of the royal palace in Vietnam.

This was just about the coolest art piece I saw while at Burning Man. Each of the 9X9X9 balls in the cube can light to any color. The result was some amazing animations and effects!
